Types of Garlic I grow
This garlic braid is a crafted decor to enliven any kitchen/dining area from which a cook can clip a bulb as needed in food prep. This garlic is carefully grown and tended with organic practices (from seed I’ve saved through the years), then cured, cleaned and lovingly designed and plaited into this edible kitchen decoration. For Connoisseurs: information about the garlic variety, its uses, flavor and storage life, lets you select the type that suits your palette and recipes.
Music
“Outstanding … produces very large bulbs. When roasted, starchy-sweet. Hot when consumed raw” (Filaree Garlic Farm).
“One of the most popular garlic varieties. Stores into spring. Large, beautiful and well-formed porcelain garlic but with more color than most porcelains. Flavor is very rich and musky, strong and robust and sticks around for a while. Somewhat resistant to some of the diseases that can affect garlic. ‘The most common kind of garlic grown in Ontario is called “Music” after its developer, Al Music, a farmer who switched from tobacco farming to growing garlic in the early 1980’s and developed the strain from garlic he acquired in Italy.” (Allicins Ranch)

Thai Fire scapes were removed early. Leaves stayed pliable enough to braid when the bulbs were mature.
Smaller bulbs. I usually don’t braid hard necks unless the necks are pliable which sometimes Thai Fire’s are. “Clove skins dark nut brown. Complex full flavor” (Filaree). “Turban garlic originally from Bangkok– rich complex flavor. Outer skin silky white and rich lavender stripes … raw cloves gradually increase in heat intensity from first bite. Among earliest harvest,” short storage (Allicins Ranch). Rich, complex flavors enhance any cooked recipe. 4 bulb (2L, 2M) = $20 AVAILABLE Loose bulbs in crocheted holder SOLD OUT. 3 bulb (1 L, 1 M, 1 Sm) = $15 SOLD OUT

“Turban garlic originally from Bangkok– rich complex flavor. Outer skin silky white and rich lavender stripes … cloves gradually increase in heat intensity from first bite. Among earliest harvest,” short storage, “extremely adaptable–can grow in diverse climates. Turban Hardneck Garlic varieties have a softer stalk and produce a weak scape. The vibrant color and weaker stalk make a good garlic for braiding” Harvest a few weeks before others.” (Allicins Ranch)
“Typical Turban was purchased at a Bangkok market. Clove skins dark mahogany brown. Complex full flavor which ‘produces delicate tingle on tongue when tasted raw’ and a rising heat level. From Salt Spring Seed via Flora Baartz” (Filaree Garlic Farm).
#5 Inchellium Red (Lou-Allicins Ranch seed) 9 bulb. $35 SOLD
Inchellium Red
“Large bulbed, vigorous Artichoke strain. Top rated at a 1990 Rodale kitchens taste test. Bulbs contain 4 to 5 clove layers with 8 to 20 cloves. Mild, flavorful” (Filaree). “Large and beautiful artichoke garlic with delightfully robust flavor but not so strong as to be overpowering. Even the interior cloves are generally of good size. Outer bulb wrappers are thick and protect the bulb well. A good storer but still peels easily (Allicins Ranch). Discovered on the Colville Indian Reservation by Larry Geno; original source unknown. 8-20 cloves per bulb. Seems to have higher soluble solids (denser, heavier bulbs) than other Artichokes. Mild, flavorful.” Long keeper (till April or later).
